When driving it in manual mode and an upshift is made for instance from 1st to 2nd all the gear lights (1,2,3,4,5,6) will flash at once and then it will shift into the next higher gear and flash that gear. Upon downshifting when it shifts into first (automatically) it will make a loud clunk. Additionally after this problem started when I open the door before the car is started it no longer makes a mechanical noise at the rear of the car.

This car had the e-gear computer software upgrade I believe at the 1500 mile service. This upgrade dramatically improved the driveability of the car at low speeds and eliminated the low speed lurch. Additionally they reprogramed the engine management system and eliminated the cold start lurch and stall.

Anyone ever heard of such a problem? Dealer is currently attempting to figure it out and had reported that the Lamborghini rep said this was a new problem he had never experienced. I trust this e-gear is not new technology that owners are going to be required to do the R&D and troubleshooting on.
Haven't heard this one before. E-gear is hardly new technology so I wouldn't worry on this score - it has been around in one form or another for 10 years.

Keep us posted on how you go.

I had a 1964 Renault Dalphine many many years ago that had a manual transmission...."by design" with a typical manual clutch and slave cylinder that was operated by computer to work as an automatic.... it was rough in those days so the process has been developed over many year.

Having shared this; I agree that todays worries regarding E-gear or F1 should be minimal at best.

Take care

Default Gallardo e-gear questions

Sorry if this is a repost, but I need to find out some things.

I'm planning to buy a Gallardo next year to do a Twin Turbo conversion to it. in fact, I might buy a second engine and transmission for that purpose. I know already what sleeves, pistons, valves, etc etc I am going to use, have in mind two different turbos, not sure wich I will use at the end.

The power I will be looking at is around 1000 to 1200 HP to the flywheel, wich is twice or more the stock power.

Now, I have driven other cars with similar e-gear transmissions, and I like it a lot. but I would like to know how the one in the Gallardo works.

If anybody knows, I need to know:

- What clucth it uses (same as the 6-speed trasnmission?)
- The gear ratios
- How many ECU actually control the transmission?
- Anybody has done a custom program from the transmission ECU?

And last, how reliable it would be to have it as per your own personal experience.

Unless I can get convinced by real facts, I think that transmission will not be able to stand the power, so I will have to get a regular 6-speed and upgrade the clutch to something more realistic for the power. If I can hack into the ECU and make a new map for the transmission, then I could use the e-gear with an upgraded clutch too, but I need opinions on this.

Last option would be to buy the car with the e-gear, and then buy a 6 speed transmission and just try both, and thenmodify also two main ECUs instead of one.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the reply, gforce would be the right contact

Hey, gforce, I just realized you have the e-gear transmission. If you read this, can you please tell me what you think of the transmission, and if you think it will hold stock or have to do some upgrades. I know very little about this transmission, I would like to get the Gallardo with it, but I want to make sure is a good deal or not.

Is it possible to change the clutch on it for a racing stronger one? And what mods can be done to the computer?

I searched around but didn't find what I'm looking for, sorry if I am reposting this questions.

Thanks again guys.

Gforce had a 3 Disc Clutch specialy made for his car. I think he said Center Force built it (but I may be mistaken), and he told me they are going to Piggy Back the ECU's.

I wouldn't be surprised that Center Force did it, they are very good when creating custom clutches. So I guess the e-gear likes to get some good stuff I'll keep it in mind.

For the ECU, I'm not sure to what point is good to do that. I would try to hack into it and tray to make new maps, but of course, the help from a professional on that matter would be better. I just don't know who can hack into Lamborghini ECUs. I'll keep on researching, as I want to do that too on the e-gear ECU as well if I decide to go with it.

Thanks for the info!

Dan

It's not an automatic, dude. It's a manual with a computer controlled clutch. I do wish people would bone up on the technology before they criticise.
I've driven manuals most of my life and once you've finessed a heel/toe shift there's nothing else to learn.
E-gear is a lot faster than a manual, period. It is, however, tricky at low speed (no way to bleed off the power, y'see, it's all throttle). So contrary to your comments, Lambo-Crazy, the manual is for city traffic not e-gear. Jesus, would you also like motorcycles to go back to a hand-change!
I'm not trying to p*ss anyone off, just fighting my corner.

Man, I got the EXACTLY same problem on my 360 spider F1. It was very scary it could happen any time I would switch gears, but not always.
After a while I was very supsious about changing gear
At the services, they had to change the CLUTCH !!!
It was 80% used , so that's what is going to happen to you too....
Guess you don't play gentle with the throttle....

Good luck buddy...

Stan

waiting for my Gallardo
