John,

the ignition switch does sound problematical doesn't it. In my P250 though I found I had a bad condensor that would cut out once hot. The problem would 'go away' once the engine cooled down. I doubt that's your problem as both would have to cut out at once (and suddenly as opposed to gradually as they get hot) to create your symptoms, but I thought I'd mention it ...

Btw, Pertronix in the States offers a Hall Effect upgrade for the P250 dizzy replacing the points ... Aftermarket CDI systems like MSD (I believe) or Plasmatronics use the points as a trigger, but not to carry much current at all - they claim the points will last for quite a long time when used like this ...

Regards and good luck w/ the car!! A P300 sounds great to me!!

Hi Bryan,
Thanks for your input, rest assured all information is welcome as myself (and an auto electrician) will embark on a thorough tracing of wires and test/replace components along the way. I will not assume in the first instance that one item is faulty, it could be a combination! The car is fitted with a pointless electronic ignition system, I’ve spoken to the distributor/suppliers and described the problem, they’ve assured me the fault cannot be caused by the electronic ignition.
Thanks again Bryan.
John

Hi John!!

The car is already fitted w/ an electronic ignition? Great, which one in what sort of arrangement? I've been thinking of going electronic and am always interested in any data, thanks!!

There is an eBay seller, rezdoc, that sells large size Lambo wiring diagrams he tells me he received as part of factory training offered to US dealer mechanics. The P250 diagram I bought from him has been very accurate (so far) and much easier to try and make out than the small copy in the Driver's Handbook. I know some folks have complained about the Espada (I believe) diagram they received from him though. Not sure if he has a P300 diagram, but you might ask, it could be helpful. 'Course the factory had a habit of sometimes using the wire colors available at the moment ...

Good luck!!! Let us know what you find!!

I have a diagram for my 86 Jalpa I got from him and it is about 75% to 50% accurate (connections are more accurate, colors are less accurate.) It is no fault of the seller. Each car was hand made and things varied over time. I am trying to re-color and rework mine. It is a great starting place. Don't expect it to be perfect, especially if you have a later produced car. I asked the seller about it and he told me my chart was made at the very beginning as the car went into production. (It is the best thing you can hope for. Updates most likely do not exist and the original was used as a guide.)

Yes, you hear interesing things about folks at the factory using the wire colors available at the time :-) and the Jalpa was in production for quite a while , I wouldn't be surprised it the wiring evolved ...

You might check w/ Raymond about what is available ... Perhaps there are later versions of the wiring diagram.

Regards,

Bryan

That mentioned Jalpa wiring diagram is on the jalpa-HP as well, the one of the P300 is in the drivers manual.
