Default Timing belts Urraco

What can be told about the timing belts from the Urraco? I often hear negative news about this.

I don't believe there is anything special or different about Urraco timing belts. All timing belts can get brittle and break over time. When they break, valves slam into pistons, and the valve train and engine can get seriously damaged.

The Urraco is getting to be an old car and the condition of the belt should be checked. If the belts have never been changed, chances for breakage are very high. I am not sure how hard it is to change those belts, but if the positioning and clearence is the same as my Jalpa, I would expect the engine needs to come out for it. An Urraco owner could tell you more about that.

Timing belts get brittle and break when they are old or if a car is not run frequently. The Urraco is an old car. I think that is core of the timing belt issue.

as it has been said if you want to do a good job you must take the engine out of the car (I have done so).

nothing else is to be said about the belts, they are belts and must be checked ...

bye

Default Timing belt

I often read that the timing belt of the Urraco is not as reliabele as it should normally be, compared with other cars, thats why I ask this.

There's a lot of bollocks talked about when it comes to timing belts in general & Urraco belts in particular - Here & as a result of a lengthy conversation with a 40 year plus Lamborghini mechanic are the basic facts.
1 Do not use any old stock that you are unsure of - new belts are available & you must ensure you are using an item that has not spent 20 years deteriorating on a shelf somewhere.
2 Avoid push/jump starting the car - the ONLY example of belt failure he or I have encountered in this time was an F car being push started & the belt jumped when gear was suddenly engaged - it's rare even this would happen but as a general rule its best avoided.
3 Replace belt every 3 years regardless of millage - this does not entail an engine out job.
4 Retention belt every 12 months - a simple job.
5 Trust only competant persons to work on your car - there are 100 bull****ters for every good lambo competant mechanic - owners clubs will advise best mechanics in your locality.

Don't let the need for this simple extra servicing item put you of a "U" - they are the most fun you can have with your trousers on but PLEASE PLEASE buy a sorted car - a bad one will break your heart.

BAX.

I changed mine every 8 to 9 years and after inspection it was still in good order. It is an engine out job.

I did mine in the car. Rotate motor to TDC, Mark your cams and crankshaft pulley, The covers will come off with motor in the car. Very tight but they will come off. Check your pulley bearings - they can be replaced with bearings from local bearing supply. Not a big deal.
