Okay, I need some help with diagnosing why between 60 and 80 mph the steering is wobbling.

At first I thought it was that the front wheels hadn't been balanced, which has now been sorted and it is still there.

Anyone with any ideas, where I should start looking?

It could be caused by several things such as;

- Bend rim
- Imperfect/defective tires
- Warped Disc Rotor
- Front end damage

You mentioned that you balanced the tires so you can rule out tires and rims, providing that shop did the balancing correctly. On a side note I just recently had two P-Zero tires on my last Porsche that were defective, one had 16k on them and I replaced it and the replacement tire which was brand new was defective as well.

You can rule out front end damage if you never came in contact with anything such as curb, major pothole etc.

A warped disc rotor can occur from heating up the discs too much and they require turning to get them back in line again.

I used to warp my rotors every now and then on a Prelude I owned by heavy braking, turning them put them back to normal.

Hopefully this points you in the right direction.

Try the steering damper.

Well, I've never looked underneath the front of a Jalpa, but my old Jeeps always did that at highway speed because they needed a new sterring stabilizer shock. Does the Jalpa have one?

Oh, and tie rods and ends.

Do you hear a noise from the wheel bearing?

Otherwise one of the silentblock could have broken or the ball joint at the outer end where the strut is attached.

The original outfit that balanced them, got them close but not very, so thankfully that problem is sorted.
