Default Silhouette battery help

My battery needs replacing as now dead.

Quite embarrassing but I can't see how it is removed. It has a metal retaining clip on the front edge which doesn't seem to budge and a cable that goes along the right side of it that I think seems to also be some sort of retaining part.

Anyone know how the battery is removed?

Also does anyone know the type of battery to use as a replacement? (the current one is some make I've never heard of looks pretty cr*p).

thanks

Craig

Can you post a photo if the retainers? It might help to figure it out.

Thank you.

Craig,

yes a pic would help!!

I've attached a (fair) scan of the standard 'battery TAV' page of the P300 parts manual. I would think this would be identical for your Silhouette (or at least pretty darn close).

If this were your arrangement, the key would be removing part # 59, a retaining bracket held by a single bolt part # 61 with a washer, part # 60. The bracket runs along the long side of the battery facing the center portion of the forward boot. The bolt needs to be unscrewed quite a bit before it clears the base of the battery and you can lift the battery out - newer batteries usually have an attached strap which makes this part easier. Of course you'd first need to remove your battery cables from the battery ... :-) I've never had to 'mess' w/ part #68, the rear bracket ...

Sounds like you have something different. Can you post some pics of your arrangement?

Regards,

Bryan

thanks Bryan

I managed to get the battery out with your diagram's help

the problem was I couldn't see the nut on part #59 - not helped by the fact I had no torch at the time!

I have been told a battery 096 type is the relevant replacement

the current battery is French and says it is for Peugeot 106 so probably completely underpowered

Craig,

glad to help!!

My P250 handbook specifies a Urania Mc4b-12V-55Ah battery. Nothing on CCA ... If you won't be driving the car very regularly, from what I know I would recommend getting a good trickle charger (for example, try the Battery Tender brand) to prolong the life of your new battery - typical batteries don't tolerate very many full discharges well. Some folks also run Marine Deep Cycle batteries for this reason, but you have to make sure you have the CCA to start the car (and decent reserve is a good idea).

So ... can you tell us about your car? Got any pics? :-)

Regards,

Bryan

Bryan

Thanks again

I managed to get a Bosch type 075 battery that fitted perfectly. I need to get a new trickle charger as mine doesn't seem to work anymore.

My car is chassis 40006 - the first Silhouette built. It was a one owner car I bought in France last year. It needed a bit of engine work and some work on clutch/ brakes but bodywork is very good luckily. I don't have any pics to post as not adept at these things but some old pics on the registry.
