if there was bubbling, blistering, peeling or cracking of any kind I would bring it to bare metal. I would not go through hours of hand sanding to have the outcome be poor. I agree with some of what is said on the above post. However, while sanding I see that are 3 layers of primer (black, red and grey) in some areas. That does not seem like anyone cut corners. Also as stated I have ZERO rust on the car. If the cars were handled in the way describe we would all have huge issues. Time will tell what the outcome will be. One thing I have learn is there are no guarantees in life.

Good info Preo.

I'm sure to keep that in mind as I inspect my body before I get it on the road. Detour's already all too aware of his car so he is doing the right thing. I, on the other hand have just bought mine so I need to go over it well and look for issues.

Awsome job Detour_Racing! It makes me want to tear into mine as soon as possible.

Awsome sight, just awsome

As far as I know and have seen from various pictured the Jalpa's were painted at Lamborghini not Bertone.

It's correct that Bertone delivered ready painted bodies till the eigthies but after the arrival of the Mimran family this changed. It's also quite obvious since the colour range was prior Bertone and later the PPG colours lamborghini used on the Countach.

The attached picture is from the Book "Voiture de Legend" and shows primered bodies in St. Agatha, obviously the small picture shows a red example with the countach "rosso siviglia"...

When Frank Sinatra got his Miura S in 1970, he said: “If you wanna be someone, buy Ferrari - If you are someone, you own a Lamborghini”.

Back to the bumper

You've got me thinking here.

The end pieces on my bumper have started to detach. I'm wondering how the bumper looks without them. If they were gone I think the body line would be unbroken. What do you think?

I visited Bertone in the spring of 1984. There were around 50-60 X 1/9s on the production line, and maybe 10-11 Jalpas.

At that time the Jalpas were painted at Bertone.

It is possible that Lambo took the process in-house during the Chrysler years, and it is also possible that later on Silver Car, the panel stamper did some of the work.

The original version was from Osprey Publishing in 1985.
Lamborghini Supreme Amongst Exotics by Andrew Morland

I think Lamborghini took over the painting of the Jalpas with the QV production in 1985.

Thanks again Raymond! Wish I had half your knowledge!

I didn't know my restoration project was going to be so controversial. As usual Raymond thank you for your input, it is always appreciated.
