Unhappy My Ruined Weekend

This weekend I decided to clean and wax my Jalpa after it had sat for several months. Once finished, I sat down across the garage to rest and admire the car...'thinking...wow, it looks great' when suddenly I notice a soft play ball roll into my garage and stop behind the front driver's side wheel. Before I had a chance to get up, my neighbor's kid came running in to get the ball. I asked 'how he was doing' when all of a sudden...he grabs the ball and quickly lifts his head...banging it hard against the driver's side mirror...breaking the mirror off its base. .
I tried to console the kid but he goes running off crying and rubbing his head...leaving the ball in the garage. I look at the hanging mirror and think..why me???
A few minutes later my neighbor comes by with the kid kindly asking for the ball and mentioning I shouldn't "scare children like that"! Thinking what else can happen, I decide not to respond and just shake my head.

Does anyone out there have an original mirror base that they don't need (I believe either side will work) or know of where I can find one for a reasonable cost. I heard that these mirrors were also used on some other italian cars.

Any help would really be appreciated.

BTW, Both my neighbor and I had a good laugh later in the day. A good glass of German beer truly helped!

Thanks,
Gianni

Sorry to hear this Gianni. If they are the original mirrors they are from Vitaloni. Try ebay, Italiancarparts.com and put Vitaloni mirror into Google and you should find it they are quite common, the same mirror was used on the Countach and LM 002.

Good luck.

Default Electric Vitaloni Mirrors

Well,

I've been patiently looking for the original driver's side Vitaloni mirror (or just the base) for four months now and have found none. I've tried calling GT Car Parts in Arizona and have yet to receive any call back after leaving several voice mails. Perhaps it's a low cost item and not worth their time .

I would really appreciate any assistance at this point as I really want to drive my Jalpa but don't want to take any chances.

Does anyone have a spare driver side base they don't need or know of a substitute?

Thanks in advance!

Gianni

You could consider the baby lambo mirrors often sold on ebay and chage out both......I know that George Evans in OH had a set and so does the guy in Florida that sells Lambo parts on ebay.....something "racing". If you look up lambo parts you'll find him. Expect to pay at least $300 to $500 apiece for them.

The Florida guy that sells Lambo parts is Kurt. Contact info listed below. I have bought stuff from him before with no problems.

I just wrote an article for the Northwest Lamborghini club about repairing my drivers side mirror. As soon as they publish the newsletter, I'll include the URL here.

But, I used a product called "Muggy Weld" to fix my mirror. Work like a charm, and makes the mirror even more rigid than it was originally. Very cool stuff.

I'll post some "Before and after" pictures when I get home tonight.

Also, Re-Originals makes a near perfect reproduction of these Vitoloni mirrors. Cost is only $290.00 ea. Part number (for drivers side is: B0510S). Here is the picture they supplied me with. They come in only "Grey", so you paint them whatever color you want.

Contact at Re-Originals is Susan Lester: susan@reoriginals.com

Here are a few pictures. First is my Jalpa at the event, just before a Rolls Royce member knocked my mirror off.

Second shot is of where the mirror broke.

Third shot is after I used the Muggy Weld product. This stuff in fantastic. Flows just like a solder but melts at a point about 1/2 what it would take to melt Pot Metal. SO, it welds the pieces together. Very cool
