Default Jalpa Starter

My starter is starting to act up. I was wondering if anyone has found a cross reference for the original? I took it out last night. I can take it in and have it rebuilt but would prefer a more modern starter. Any info is appreciated. I will keep all posted on my findings.

Bosch Starter #0 001 314 004

Thanks
-Dave

A Bosch dealer can normally overhoul the starter, doesn't cost a fortune and is massively cheaper than a new one.

you should be able to get a smaller high torque starter by crossing the Bosch # with a a supplier like Jegs or Summit.

Where is Chad? He was working on a gear reduction one for several Lambos. I have put the gear reduction ones in my Pantera, and several old British cars. They make a big difference.

I looked into that during my conversion, bought an aftermarket gear reduction starter and eventually decided to stay with the original one for a number of reasons.

1. The original starter is not much bigger than smaller aftermarket starters.
2. It spins the engine faster than any of my other cars (very energetic and plenty powerful)
3. It has lasted for 22 years and still going strong.
4. It fits.
5. The engagement gear meshes properly with the flywheel (correct pitch diameter, pressure angle, addendum, dedendum, etc.)

So if anyone wants to buy a small gear reduction starter, I have one for sale, which with some machine work may fit.

Laust has a good point. The original starter is quite small and spins very fast for being so old. I would just have it rebuilt for a couple hundred or less and have no gear matching problems.

Sounds like a line of crap to me. If it is a Bosch starter, there is, as far as I know, nothing that is not available for it.
Unless you have worn it out, usually the only thing wrong is the solenoid needs to be replaced.
You get me a number off of the solenoid and I will contact a buddy at Bosch and get you one.

Laust, as you may know I have been working on a small starter for the Countach, and running into several problems.
Could I ask you to send that starter to me, to take a look at. I would be glad to pay you for the shipping.
I would like to put it beside the one I am working on and see the difference.
Thanks
