I am trying to locate the rev limiter on my 1984 Jalpa. It is clearly indentified in the wiring digram but have had no luck following the wiring to find the device in question goes into a loom and have no idea where it end up. If anyone knows where the device is located and possibly a picture of what it looks like or brand and or part number.
TIA Mike |

The rev-limiter is in the ignition box, I suppose the confusion comes from the name of the air pump control unit, TAV #8, Piece #8 is called rev meter, this is the shut-off unit for the electric clutch of the air/smog pump.

Ramond,
Thanks for the info. The Air pump has been removed from my car so I don't belive I have that component either. :-). The standard bosch unit has been replaced with a bosch 9222 067021 unit at some point, the car runs reasonably well but I have problems with the plugs fouling up I am looking at putting the MSD 6AL ignition system in so I can use the rev limit feature of that unit to reduce the RPM to max of 3000 RPM when it is off getting work done on the car. I believe it comes standard with 3000, 6000, 7000 and 8000 RPM modules. |

The MSD works very well, since you have no air pump any more no issues there, good advice, don't turn the engine more than 7000rpm since first the rev limit was 7400 on older cars, they lowered it after having problems with the sodium filled exhaust valves, they simply broke which caused many broken engines.
If you need I can provide you an installation plate and wiring for the MSD 6 for $50.

Raymond,
Thanks for the offer. I am doing a custom installation so that the MSD can not be accessed by anyone working in the engine bay. The MSD's seem very popular and they could easily switch out the rev limit module for another one if they had easy acess to it. Regards Mike |

NO problem, if you face problem with your tacho let me know I have a workaround without tacho adapter etc.
