OK I got it. I was tapping on the actual starter, not the solenoid. I will try this tomorrow. Thanks Raymond.

I have had the same issue in the past. You can tap the body of the starter with a couple medium wacks. Be more gentle on the Solenoid as not to break it. You can use a long screw driver or a metal rod placing it on the starter body and then hit the other end with the hammer.

A bad starter was a very common problem with my 1980 Maserati 4Porte. If the car wouldn't start, I'd take a long screwdriver and tap the side of the solenoid a few times, hop back in the car and it would start right up.

Thank God that car used a Chrysler starter, so it was very inexpensive to buy and actually pretty easy to install (unlike the starter on a Countach!)
