Default Jalpa Clutch

Not 5 miles after passing the annual safety test, the clutch pedal dropped to the bulkhead and woudln't come up. I thought it had got hooked under the carpet, but managed to unhook it, and get it to return.

There is plenty of fluid in the resivoir, but no action.

Would anyone have any ideas? what the problem is?

It's your clutch master cylinder or slave unit that has gone bad (first guess is clutch master cyl)

The slave cylinders are prone to go on these and can be fixed relatively easily. It is a very cheap part that can be bought at most parts places.
I believe Raymond has it on his site and you may want to look at some archives here for it.

Unfortunately the part itself isn't cheap at all since the slave was sleeved, but it's cheap to fix it by using new joints.

Please read till the end of the clutch cylinder story: http://www.jalpa.ch/Problems/index.html

Eurospares parted a jalpa for parts they might have a slave cylinder in stock now, factory price is $600 (it costs a lot of work to sleeve an Alfa cylinder).

You might also try GT Car Parts if you have no luck with EuroSpares. They stock a lot of Jalpa stuff.

Hi Guys,
Thanks for all the responses. I didn't admit it, in my first post, but I'd followed Raymond's site and rebuilt the slave cylinder last year. Obviously I'd not done it right. A little embarrasing.

When I told my girl friend, she joked that in all probability, it'll be a small cheap part...

So yesterday I stripped the engine bay down to get at the cylinder, only it all looked fine, no leakage, full and clean fluid in the master cylinder, so what gives?

If you look in the Parts Manual, page 28, you see two pins secure the clutch pedal to the pivot, marked as item number 32. Turns out these two pins have sheered, so the pedal is moving, but it is rotating freely and not actuating the clutch master cylinder.

The pins are 0.82 each from Eurospares, looks like Abigail was right all along...

Once again, thank you for the replies guys.
