Whether you choose to accept it or not, the Supra is a Supercar. It's Toyota's only supercar.. until the V10 with vvtL-i technology comes out. That'll have you guys very angry lol..

The Supra is many things but Supercar it is not. In fact it probably possesses none of the many criteria required to be a Supercar (HP, performance, style, beauty, exclusivity, cost, etc). The Fastest Supra in the World is not a Supercar. Just like the initial GT-R is not a Supercar, and with 1000 aftermarket HP will not be a Supercar. There are no Asian Supercars. If it doesn't leave the factory as a Supercar, it will most likely never be a Supercar. The designation comes from the concensus of opinion of automobile journalists, not the manufacturer or someone on a Supercar Forum.

This is a discussion/argument based on semantics. Who defines what a "supercar" is?

Having said that, I've never seen the Supra called a "supercar" by the majority auto media. I've seen comments like "supercar performance", but the Supra was far too affordable even when new to be considered a supercar by most definitions. Yes it had (has) incredible performance, but it was far too affordable, there were too many of them, and it was a Toyota

What the Asian sportscar fanbois seem to overlook every time this discussion comes up is that with any true supercar, be it a Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche GT, Aston Martin, etc, the COST is of course high because you're buying an exclusive car, one that's built for a single purpose, in highly exclusive & limited production runs, with the SOUL that no amount of turbos, fart-can mufflers or turbo boost gauges can ever match, even if the tuner car can do an 10-sec quarter-mile. Sure, it's easy to exceed a Lambo's straight-line performance with $20K in engine upgrades in a Supra, Evo VIII or similar....but those cars will NEVER have the heart and soul of an Italian supercar. Ever.

Oversimplifying an Italian supercar into an insulting comment like, "You paid $200K for a car that can't beat my $50K tuner car in the quarter mile? I have more bang for the buck!" is missing the point.

I have a ton of respect for the Supra, but it isn't a supercar in my (or many others') mind.

That is one ugly supra, oh and the supra is NOT super car.

I think you're getting the wrong impression. I have always been a Lamborghini fan, but I think a lot of you are fooling yourselves when you think that just because it's a Lamborghini means it's the best. Of course I repect the prestige and soul of the car, I am after all Italian.

However, you can't say that other imports have no soul. Besides, Lamborghini isn't even Italian owned anymore. So much for that, huh?

Albiet I'd rather own a Lamborghini, but whatever pocket change that's left over I'd buy a fast Japanese car for fun.

I find it funny how exotic owners speak of soul and performance while the vast majority of you baby your car to the point that you barely enjoy it much less actually drive it on a road course. When it comes down to it, from what I've observed on this site, most of you only see it as an object to exemplify your materialism.

Those inline 6 engines are bulletproof and so are the German built Getrag transmissions they have. Some of those things will eat a Veyron for dinner. You can't put a price on racing enthusiasm.

I think you should stop deluding yourself and watch that video again. That lambo didn't have a chance at all. Even at WOT head start the Supra blew it's doors off..

Hey Drewd, don't get your pants in a bundle. Your statement about the Supra being a Supercar is what drew some Forum ire. Any knowledgeable go-fast car enthusiast knows the Supra is a great car that can be modified to be one of the fastest cars known to man. It is an immensely popular go-fast car for people on a budget, but not the dream car of any exotic owners, although obviously some owners of exotics also own a Supra. No one buys a Lambo, Ferrari, Turbo Porsche or most other exotics because they believe it's the "fastest" car, but all the exotics meet a speed benchmark that is part of the package, whereas with a modified Supra, speed is essentially the total package. As an exotic car owner, the reason I would be interested in a Supra is because, even at 1200 HP, it's a disposable car...if you wreck it, no big deal, leave the mess for someone else to clean up.
