Default $9k detail, gallery

How much would you pay for a car wash? The Guardian has an article on Paul Dalton, who runs a company called Miracle Detail that gives what may be one of the most expensive car washes in the world. It costs £5,000 ($9,198) for his Pinnacle car wash. It's the service Rod Stewart uses to polish up his Ferrari Enzo. The 52-step process includes multiple washes, pampering with gentle towels and even the use of a depth gauge that lets Dalton measure the paint thickness so he can smooth out the scratches without messing up the finish. He waxes with a special kind of Zymöl wax that costs £7,000 a tube and Dalton keeps in a safe in his fridge. It is made with 73% carnauba wax from the Brazilian rainforest and just a few tablespoons work on the whole car. His website has a photo gallery full of the super glossy results.

There is no Zymöl which costs that much, even not the concours wax!

I polished my car with the standard wax, took me several hours:

guy is an idiot - paying that kind of money for a detail - especially when it will get dirty a few days later again and besides how many scratches could an enzo get?

BTW, for the entire car I needed about one teaspoon of the standard wax.

I thought this thread might be a good way to introduce myself. I actually own my own mobile detailing business, in which I perform high end and concours detailing services in Toronto, much like Mr. Paul Dalton. I thought I could offer some assistance with your questions and comments here.

For instance:

There is indeed a $10,000 wax made by Zymöl and it's called Royale: ZYMOL ROYALE GLAZE 44 oz

It's a part of the Estate Glaze collection by Zymol which also includes Vintage at about $2000, and Solaris at around $30,000.

Naturally, I may be inclined to disagree. When you machine polish a car to perfection, removing all swirls, light scratches, and RIDS (random isolated deep scratches), the finish will not diminish because of a little bit of dirt. When washed properly by a detailer such as Paul Dalton or myself, no damage will be induced and the finish will remain perfect for as long as it is properly maintained.

The amount of wax necessary shouldn't go up or down by a significant amount whether it's a $10 wax, or a $10,000 wax.

I hope this helps.

It helps me understand there are lots of sick bastards out there. Those that make a $10-$30K wax, and those that use it. Both should be ashamed.

You could say the same thing about $200k+ cars.

FWIW, I've used the lesser of the three, Vintage, and it's roughly equal in looks to my standard wax. The biggest advantage of the Estate Glazes is that they have unlimited refills. As well, people like the idea of getting a $2000 wax on their car.

Touche! LOL yeah, I thought about that after I posted it, but really, would you know the difference between a good say $100.00 wax and one costing thousands? I bet not. As you said, some like wasting money just because they can. Still, I'd be careful who I told it to.
