Convertibles Do not need the child safety bolt/seatbelt. I just imported a convertible a couple months ago and then is what I was told.

This safety bolt attachment is part of the sub-frame and can cost upwards of $50,000 to implement if not on the vehicle. Roadsters are supposedly exempt from this requirement as they are considered "limited/special edition production" vehicles.

Anyway, firstly find a couple of different vehicles that interest you and get their VIN numbers. Then call Alex @ Lamborghini Toronto with these numbers to check on their importability into the Canada. Once determined that a particular vehicle can be brought in, it will likely cost you around $15,000 for the Federalization requirement implementation. With Lamborhgini, each car will have slighly differing requirements and it can depend on the individual Canadian government import officer's mood as to what may be required of you in particular to modify on the vehicle!?!

Some straight forward differing aspects: speedometer changeover, front and rear bumper standards between three and five mph, daytime running lights, etc. It is a process, but if you plan on keeping the vehicle for the long term, then why not get exactly what you want from a marketplace with a much larger selection.

Just be careful as to whom you get your vehicle from -- the last Vancouver person who brought in and federalized a "certified" SV from a Florida dealer found themselves stuck with tens of thousands in repair bills before he even got to drive his car that was supposed to be perfect.

They told me the last Lambo to be imported was a Diablo, not sure which type. She said it was to someone in Nickleback.
Lamborghini Canada probably makes it difficult to import Lambos from the States because they want you to pay more and give your money to a Canadian Lambo dealer.

DaleCorp, does Alex work for Lamborghini Toronto (Dealer) or Lamborghini Canada? Because if he works for the dealer, it would be in his best intrest to just say NO and make you buy the vehical from Lambo Toronto?

Alex works for Lamborghini Canada which happens to have the same owner as Lamborghini Toronto. However, in his mind, there is no reason to stop the import of Lamborghini models that are no longer made -- he has an obligation though to Transport Canada to ensure that they are properly federalized to meet Canadian specifications and standards. Yes, the process is a pain and the conversion can be costly, but it provides you with a larger market from which to source your Lambo from. There are literally no (fairly priced) Roadsters or SV's around for sale in Canada, so why not facilitate customers in bringing them in?

I am not so sure about importing a car anymore, here is my logic;

The two main advantages are the bigger selection of vehicles and lower prices for corresponding models, the drawbacks are the complicated (and uncertain) importation procedure and the fact that they are non-Canadian cars which we all know the drawbacks to.

There is absolutely no disputing the wider selection in the US; however, I am not so certain about the price advantage. Lets say you find a nice 98-99 SV for around U$150k (C$175), add to that a minimum of 6% duty (C$185k) plus transportation, brokerage and whatever associated conversion costs (Harvey mentioned around C$15K) and you are looking at round C$200-210k for what is after all a 98-99 SV, whilst you can pick up a nice 01 here for anywhere between C$210-250k, which I believe is a vastly better car!

So unless you want a specific vehicle in the US and no other would do, then I don't believe the hassle of importing one is worth it.

So I am back to looking for Canadian car again, please help me find one...

Thank you guys,

F
