I spoke with Zahir at ZR and he doesnt have any incoming diablos.??I am extremly grateful to all your replys and numerous PM's. You helped me narrow down my focus to an 01 6.0 model, as the price, reliability, design and power balance seems about right.??So does anyone know of an 01 out there, or any private owner considering selling his???Thank you again.??F

Roy's 6.0 Diablos are U.S. specified models and are not importable into Canada.... If you want to bring in and convert a U.S. Diablo, it will have to be a Roadster or an SV.

Harvey, I've seen a few SV's in the US that look nice, do you know how I can certify one and bring it to Canada? Is there someone who can help me with this process?

Thank you,

F

The greatest ease of federalization will be with a 1999 model SV. Please note that not all for some reason are easily federalizable -- that's why it is best to start with the '99's, as they at least should have the child safety bolt under the passenger seat back required by Canada. This safety bolt attachment is part of the sub-frame and can cost upwards of $50,000 to implement if not on the vehicle. Roadsters are supposedly exempt from this requirement as they are considered "limited/special edition production" vehicles.

Anyway, firstly find a couple of different vehicles that interest you and get their VIN numbers. Then call Alex @ Lamborghini Toronto with these numbers to check on their importability into the Canada. Once determined that a particular vehicle can be brought in, it will likely cost you around $15,000 for the Federalization requirement implementation. With Lamborhgini, each car will have slighly differing requirements and it can depend on the individual Canadian government import officer's mood as to what may be required of you in particular to modify on the vehicle!?!

Some straight forward differing aspects: speedometer changeover, front and rear bumper standards between three and five mph, daytime running lights, etc. It is a process, but if you plan on keeping the vehicle for the long term, then why not get exactly what you want from a marketplace with a much larger selection.

Just be careful as to whom you get your vehicle from -- the last Vancouver person who brought in and federalized a "certified" SV from a Florida dealer found themselves stuck with tens of thousands in repair bills before he even got to drive his car that was supposed to be perfect.

I have done alot of research about bringing in a US model Lambo into Canada and this is what I've found;
NO Lambo is admissable into Canada from the US unless it is 15 years old. This goes for the 99 SV aswell. Its no more eaiser to get that car in than it is a Gallardo or a Murci.
BUT, this doesn't mean its impossible.
Basically this restriction on Lambos from the States is because Transport Canada looks at Lambos as kits... thats right kits. I told them they are not kits, they said they know they're not, but because they are hand built that is the way they look at them. I said then why do we have Lambo dealers in Canada and can buy them with no problems. They said it dosen't matter, this restriction is for importing a US spec car from the States.
So if you want a Lambo from the States, they are delt on a case-by-case basis. You need to contact Transport Canada and get a Schedule 7 form. The man to talk to is Pierre Trombleah @ 1-800-333-0371. He is the guy that will say YES or NO.
You must know the vehical you want to import, you must have the VIN and know the history of the vehical, such as when it was built, how many owners it has had, etc...
Sounds like alot of BS but you can save yourself a ton of cash.
This is what I was told from the Registrar of Imported Vehicals and Transport Canada.

That does sound like a lot of BS!! You would think Lamborghini would help with this process, like maybe pay for costs and do all the registration. That would show that they care for the person who's wants a lambo!

The fact of the matter is that Transport Canada relies upon one of two people to make the final decision: it is either up to Alex @ Lamborghini Canada to approve it for them along with required federalization or Mike Grossman in the States under the same terms and requirements. The only successful imports to date of non-current Lamborghin production vehicle models younger than fifteen years of age have gone through one of these two individuals with final Federalization still coming through Lamborghini Canada.

Not to be controversial, but you are incorrect: Transport Canada considers both the Diablo SV and Diablo Roadster to be "limited production" vehicles and gives them special consideration based on certain federalization requirements. A regular Diablo is what I would consider to be virtually impossible to import and there is no way to get around not-installing a child safety bolt to the sub-frame ($30,000). To my knowledge, the Roadster could be imported without this alteration, but the '99's already have them. Anyway, a '99 SV was imported through Lamborghini Canada and Federalized fairly recently....
