Default SUPERLEGGERA - Finally a Lamborghini that "squirts"!

I must admit I pray to two gods. The Horse and the Bull. I have been asked to describe the differences between my Lamborghinis and my Ferraris and always answer the question the same way.

"You have to guide a Lamborghini, but you can squirt a Ferrari..."

If any of you have alot of experience with newer Ferraris you probably understand what I mean. Basically, a Lamborghini (especially a Gallardo) feels heavy and needs active planning while your driving, whereas, a Ferrari feels much lighter and more responsive and can be put anywhere on a moments notice (squirt).

Well... I just picked up my Supperleggera today and they really got it right. The small amount of extra power, plus the weight loss, makes this car feel much more nible and extremely responsive (squirt). It almost doesn't seem like a 4-wheel drive - which is amazing.

The only negative so far is the overuse of carbon-fiber in the interior. I prefer carbon-fiber as a highlight, and the Super has too much. It can't save that much weight!

I'll post some pics soon...

Congrats on your car. Post some pictures of all of your cars together in a line or something....

Nice write up, you explain it very well to where I can really understand what you are saying.

I remember a while back you had a pic of your LP640 aside your 599, I would love to see more pics of the cars and include some of your other cars as well please

I personally think you have one of the best collections on this board.

Thanks. When my warehouse is done I'll get all the cars together and take some great pics. By then I should have my 2008 F430 Spyder, my Porsche 911 GT2, and my BUGATTI VEYRON.

I've really got to try a Ferrari. I feel a little different as the G handles so much better than the Countach did at the limit. It's got big car stability and small/mid-size car dynamics--no roll at all--but advance planning seems important due to heavy controls, even if it really isn't neccesary. A number of guys have switched their G's to 2wd and gained the Ferrari sensation you speak of. Maybe I'll give that a try first.

The closest I've come to that feeling is in the tossability of the NSX; just wish it had more power.

I wouldn't do that. What makes a newer lambo a lambo is the fact that its a 4WD. Lambo thought about making the Superleggera a 2WD to save weight (they know exactly to the pound how much weight it would save) and they abondoned the idea. That's the philosophy of the newer Lambos.

That said, in my opinion (and I have a lot of cars), the best supercar for the money is a Ferrari F430. I love my Lambos, but nothing comes close to a F430 as a driver's car. The sound and feel is unique and distinctly Ferrari. If I could only have one car, it would be a new F430 Spyder (other than a Veyron). The car is so much fun and so easy to drive.

If you can, take your Gallardo to a Ferrari dealership and give an F430 a test drive. They may let you if you show up in a Gallardo.

FYI, Ferrari recently announced the F430 Scuderia (updated 360 Challenge Stradale). I own a Stradale and its wonderful - very focused. The Scuderia should be insane, and it looks fantastic. I will trade my Stradale for it. Go to ferrari.com and check it out.

Maybe the problem is the familiarity with how the Gallardo handles, when you need to push it to the limit. I had very poor opportunities to really drive my Gallardo hard, until I did the Italiafest at Moroso Speedway road course, where you could drift around turns, go up to 150mph in a long stright, then into a near panic slowdown, prior to a 35 mph turn you had to be back on the gas for...and then many s turns in a row, etc, etc.
Particularly having constant opportunities to perform "near drifts" in turns, gives you a feeling for how to set up and carry through the turns with this car...and I do believe you need this with the Gallardo, because it's differences with a 2 wheel drive car are so subtle.

After a few tanks of gas doing this, the car starts to gain a predictability and personality for how it does best at handling at a maximum performance level....going at normal American road speeds and roads, you just don't gain this familiarity with what works best for the Gallardo. It does not drive like other 2 wheel drive sports cars...it is quite different, and I think better. Initially you might think it is more clumsy or lacking feedback, but after really pushing the car for extended period, I don't think anyone could say this.

After 3 tanks of gas on a good racing road course, the 4 wheel drive should become an "unfair advantage" for you, over 2 wh drive cars.

I will be doing a lot more with my Gallardo at Roebling Road and at Road Atlanta, and one of my business partners has a new Ferrari f 430....At Moroso, he was following me with the 360 he used to have, and ended up "frisbeeing" behind me after a chicane the 360 could not handle close to as well as the Gallardo. I look forward to spending a few tanks of gas at each of these courses in Ga, as well as seeing how these two exotics do versus my Winston cup car.

Regards,
Dan

I checked out the Stradale at Symbolic in La Jolla earlier in the year; it's stunning. I'm sure the new one will raise the bar.

Both cars leave me snake-fascinated, but there is a bit of a comfort issue in the G. I'll drop in on our Ferrari dealer soon, thanks. Look forward to seeing pictures of your collection!

Hey Dan, sounds like you have been having some fun. The G is a great track car, and in competent hands will outperform a F430. Since Italiafest, I have put twin turbos on my G. Makin 708rwhp!!

Might be a tad much for the track, but on the street this car rocks!

No question it's spectacular on the track. I was doing mild drifts into and out of corners at a recent track event, utilizing the four wheel drive to power out early--big smile. A Superleggera and I were lapping everyone else, including one 360.
