As taurean bull implied, it really depends on your "real world needs". I also had a Dodge Viper GTS (1997), and that car measured lower than the Gallardo and I only experienced hearing the (extreme) underside lip "brush" a few times in maybe 7 years. Maybe I'm more careful than most ?

Default Lift system is not a joke!

I always use the lift system over nearly every curb into parking lots or driveways. It's just not worth scraping it, and until you do you don't know how close you are. With the front not lifted I scrape all the time - and I would have to drive around to find the right driveway entrance to parking lots that were shallower angle.

It is not a gimmick, I use it every time I go out. Imagine being stuck on a sharp driveway incline, not able to go forward or back without a terrible scraping noise. Believe me you never want to hear that sound.

I wholeheartedly recommend the lift system if you live in an urban area - if you live in the country you might not need it.

Where you live, I can see it would be mandatory.

I scraped the bottom the first night I got my 08 Gallardo Spyder. I used to have a Porsche 911 and although very careful, used to scratch the bottom a lot. I thought Gallardo is higher so I did not use the lift system which I regret. Now, everytime I go up or down a driveway, I have to use the lift system. Since then, no more scraping the bottom. So I think it is not a gimmick but a very useful feature for all sport's car.
