Default Serious, but what's the point of buying a Lambo or any exotic?

There has never been a time I wasn't thrilled and excited when seeing a parked or passing Lamborghini, Ferrari, Porsche 911, or any other exotic.

I hope one day I will be able to buy a Gallardo as I cannot legitimately afford one.

However, for those who want to buy a Lambo or owns one already-- besides the look of the car... why would you pay so much for one (used or new) as you can only drive it a few times a week?

I don't get why someone would pay over $30,000 for a car to be honest, as I can only see you using it to get around, pick people up, or taking a guy or girl out for a date.

Sure, there's no doubt a Lambo and Ferrari gets crap load of attention from almost everyone in its viewable vicinity, but what are some reasons why someone would own one, besides the obvious aesthetics of the car?

A few simple answers besides the look are the sound, the power, the status and most importantly the accomplishment of a dream to own one.

^^^What he said. Also, some people are car enthusiasts. I completely understand why some people think it's a waste since they see it as a way to get from A to B. But the fact that people can go buy a $200k+ car is an accomplishment. Lotta money for a car.

I might rephrase it - why wouldn't you buy one if you could, variety is what makes life fun and rewarding. Is it better to have 10 Hondas or 1 used Gallardo...perhaps maybe 1 of each. You will always have a choice of less or more, practical and impractical - to me that IS the point.

I drink a variety of whiskey's from very inexpensive to very expensive. I have basic wrist watches and stupid high end watches. I also have 'practical cars' and a few 'impractical cars'

Sometimes I like a clubhouse sandwich, sometimes it's steak tartare, or rare sushi, or kobe beef or foie gras or onion rings.

Whatever...make your own choice, it has to resonate with you, you may never understand someone else's reasons, but if you don't 'get it', don't buy it.

I don't understand... why are you here? If you only find the aesthetics of a Lamborghini pleasing, why not print a giant-life-sized poster and hang it in your garage - dream accomplished. Or better yet, make one out of sheet metal:

Why spend the money when you get something that looks exactly the same for pennies on the dollar (well close to the same). For $30k you can even get a replica...

I can tell you're not a "car-guy" because this question would be quite obvious if you were. It's like asking people why they would go to an expensive restaurant if they could just eat at McDonald's. Sure both will fill you up, but the experience and your satisfaction level are completely different. Go drive a Lamborghini, and if you don't understand it then, then please never buy one because it will only go to waste.

It's a personal thing, and everyone is different. The obvious, most of us simply appreciate the finer things in life. After all what else is money for, if not to spend? I'm not going to take any of it with me.

I'm a completely crazy car freak. When I bought my first Porsche, a 996, I was 22 and at that time my friends were telling me how crazy and stupid I was to put a "big" amount of money on a car instead of keeping it for a house or retirement.
Same thing two years later when I bought the GT3.
Same thing now with the Diablo.

So right now, I have very little cash remaining (I cross my fingers, I hope the Diablo is as reliable as people told me ), I don't own a house or an appartment, I don't have anything saved for retirement (in many many decades anyway) but I'm 100% HAPPY. And that's all that matters to me

Practicality is kinda boring.
