I currently own a modified Porsche 964 Turbo and I am seriously looking into buying a Lambo in the future as a replacement.
All I hear is that these 91-94 lambo Diablos are nothing but problems and too expensive to fix such as clutch, electrical problems etc... - Is this true and what are the common problems.? - How easy is it to get more power out of these cars? - What is the best source to find a Diablo? Thanks ! |

Buy from 1993 on and take care that you get on with the Brembo brake calipers.

I believe it has as much to do with guys that don't respect the cars and drive them like they are NSX's vs SUPERCARS. They are a good dependable car when treated properly by the owner and technician.

I think the 91-93 Diablos can be bullit proof when you do the proper upgrades that are needed. I think they are easy to work on. Infact my first engine pull out of any car in my life was the Diablo. Not bad huh? I could pull a diablo engine out in about 4-5 hours easy. Main things I would look for is the pinion gear upgrade, alternator upgrade, chain tensioner upgrade are the major stuff. Clutch is a bit hard and so is the steering. I have taken care of the steering part. I have a 1998 Roadster power steering rack with an electric pump that my 240 amp alternator powers....go for it!

The clutch is apparently the first thing to go and about a $10k job ?
I contacted SPEC clutch and their kit alone is $3500 plus flywheel and install. What are the negatives of the car without being biased? Can I convert the car to use powersteering? |

You can get a clutch redone on your original one for about $600-700. As far as the flywheel goes, let me know if you need one. I am sure I can beat some prices. The clutch will last a long time if not abused, but just like any other car..it can wear out if abused. As far as a $10K cost...I think it's a bit high. If you are a home mechanic like me...you could do it in a weekend. But that is if you have all the tools to do it. Took me about 6-7 hours to pull the engine and I was taking my time. I like the 91-93 but it's a raw diablo. I think they are good cars once the kinks are worked out of them.
