The cam has to be covered. I'll try to snap a picture of mine tomorrow.

There is no open cam when you remove the smog pump, look at the pictures I posted.
The bigger issue are the headers...

Oh yes, that and a few more things, but the cam obviously has to capped off.

It's Laust's Turbo engine.

In general you need only a few parts to remove the smog pump completely.
Parts #1,#2,#19 and #25 is all you need...
