Default California smog laws

Does anyone know of an online resource for smog laws on collector cars such as Jalpas?
Obviously it's too young to be exempt based on age but does the fact that it's a rarely driven unit have anything to do with it?
I looked all over Google and checked DMV but couldn't find any info.
Thanks.

Default Smog question

Hi, I posted this in the Jalpa forum but I thought I might more responses if I post here too so please don't flame me; I'm new here.

I was just wondering if anyone knows of an online resource for CA smog requirements for a Jalpa.
I looked at the DMV and on Google and couldn't find anything, but I guess I'm curious to know if there's a smog exception for vehicles like this that aren't driven on a daily basis.

Thanks.

In short no. If the car is post 1976, and you are in a smog zip, you need a smog cert every two years of registration.

How "rarely" is it driven?

The insurance is for under 5K miles per year, but realistically we take it out for a 20 minute drive a few times a year; does reflected mileage from the last smog date have anything to do with it?

http://www.racingbeat.com/emissions.htm

If CA is as tough as Oregon, you have to pass to get normal registration.

You may be able to get "Special Vehicle" or "Vehicle of Interest" plates. These have driving restrictions, but you never have to do DEQ again.

I also heard CA had a law about an unavailable parts waiver. If you are missing part of your emission system, DMV sends you to a list of part suppliers. You tell them what you need, they laugh, and tell DMV it is not available, and you get a waiver. (I only heard this, and I can not find the post anywhere.)

If these leads do not help, you might try some other chat rooms.

Its called a "Limited Parts Exemptions". Its good only for one smog check.

Move to NYC and you'll have no problem inspecting it. Will just cost you more than the usual. (call Vinny Badabing) Don't you have a Vinny in CA?

car must have cats and air pump and be leaned out enough to pass the emissions test. then in order to drive it, you have to undo all that crap.

glad i can have euro spec cars in Georgia. i am from California and will never go back.

the webbers can be tuned to pass the test, but it will not be cheap to get someone to do it, and then retune the car. also it may need to be trailered if its so lean as to pass the tests.

We used to have a emissions check. Anything that a carb on it would take several retrys. My Ducati was probably the worst, air cooled, too hot -fail, too cold - fail. I lowered the idle down as much as possible, leaned the carbs out, and then when they ask me to rev it up, I would only rev it up a little.
