Default New Jalpa Owner

I just wanted to say "hello" and introduce myself as the newest Jalpa owner to the board. I am a Detroit automotive engineer who's owned several exotics over the years... but never a Lambo. As a young kid, I had a picture of a Jalpa on my wall and always wanted one... this past month I finally pulled the trigger. At any rate, I spent several years working for MOMO S.p.A in Italy as a safety restraints engineer and consequently know several good sources for obscure items such as interior trim bits. I also used to be NA Leather Engineer for Steering Wheels and Accessories... so feel free to contact me if I can ever be of help. Obviously, I will be relying on the members of this board to help navigate me through "Jalpa ownership".

-John

PS - I'm not sure if everyone has a source or not, but I found a good source for Jalpa mats w/Bull logo (they have the pattern on file)... they're very reasonably priced. Let me know if this is of interest to anyone else.

Welcome to the club. This is a great place to get the answers to all you Jalpa questions. I am interested in learning more about the mats. You can pm the prices if you'd like.

Hi Raymond.

I puchased #12045 from the Washington DC area. It had been a garage queen and the previous owner... was a "little old lady type", who had an extensive display of cars, but was too afraid to drive them! The car cosmetically is a condition 1-, paint is beyond perfect. The mechanic said that the car had no issues after a review and a full flush of fluids, new CV boots, plugs, wires, hoses, etc. That being said... I suspect that I will have a few gremlins to sort out after it siting for so long (as an engineer I can state that problems always arise from non-driven cars... Ferrari guys take note!).

On a side note, I almost bought the "infamous" George Evans car #12038 that I have been reading so much about. Mechanically the car is in great shape, drives very well. Cosmetically inside & out it's above average, I would call it a cond 3+ ... may be even a 2- car. Certaintly no rust, or major dents or dings. At any rate, I thought they we're very straightforward and I think that this would be one of the better Jalpa's for sale.

-John

Yes, the board's comments on the car's condition were a little entertaining to read. The body/paint on this car is perfect and the mileage was verified. The previous owner kept the car in a climate controlled garage and showed it with his other cars as "art work". I did meet with the owner (older guy) and he is selling all of his cars in a move to Florida. At any rate, it's pretty sad that his cars we're never driven... as far as I can tell, the Jalpa went to one local Concours event and spent the rest of the time in the garage as a display item. Too bad. -John

Well, the issues will occur when you drive it now, since the joints dry and now they will drop oil, that's for sure. But anyway as long as you have oil drops the engine still has oil... if no more

How do you work your rating system? Is #1 condition the best and #10 the worst?? Thanks
