Question Just Bought the Jalpa with No Engine

Hi Guys,

I have been extremely busiy and have not been on here much, but I figure I should up date the group and I miss you guys.

I bought the Jalpa with no engine from Joe in CA. $8,100 for the car, It does not have an engine or trans.

Raymond,

I will PM you about the engine and trans you say is in Switzerland.

The real question is this:

option 1: Buy a Jalpa engine and trans and restore the car (Eurospares already sold the engine, trnas, and targa top)

option 2: Put a custom engine and trans in it... say a chevy 383 stroker and maybe a porche trans.

option 3: I hate to do it, but part it out to keep everyone else car running.

Any ideas guys?

Thanks,
David

Hi David:

Congratulations on your new Jalpa. Did they say what happened to the original engine and transmission form the car?

Hi David
My mechanic in Tampa may know of an engine (i'm not sure about a trans, but will ask him) in Italy for sale. I will see him on Monday and ask him to get some info for you.
Congrats on the car.

Thanks Guys any help will well help

The engine had an issue in 85 soon after Joe bought the car he had the engine and trans pulled to have it worked on at a shop and the guy ended up getting arrested, shop closed etc. He gave me the name of the guy I do not remember the guys name, but he built a few exotics for hollywood. However, everything lost and the car has been in storage for years now.

It has a clean title. I am interested to see the "real" condition of the car.

I will findout more info on Monday.

David

That is a great deal. I would definitely NOT part it out. It would be best to get an original engine and trans but your idea of a 383 sounds good to me for the time being. Just make sure that down the road you can bring it back to original!! That is a great buy!!! .....AND WELCOME BACK!!!

I thought about the car myself (I was the first bid at a generous $100! . I was thinking about putting a Cadillac northstar or Olds Aurora v8. You could go with a 5 speed out of a Fiero, use Archies v8 kit, or put the Olds engine in with an automatic. The Fiero uses a frame engine craddle similar to the Jalpas. I would fix it for sure.

Hi David,

Congratulations, It will be nice to fit a Jalpa engine in it.
I also have some Jalpa parts at home but I'm located in Europe....

- bring it back to life! american engines in european cars usually ruin the car (see those old XJ6's w/V8 chevy engines) -

- if you can afford to, try your best to find the engine and transmission and bring it back! there aren't many left in the world...it would be nice for jalpa fans to see them stay on earth...they're dying species! the body did look very good from pictures...you'll need to find a good heart for it.

...having said that, congrats...keep us posted on what you do.
