Your lucky you have the velocity stack, I like the looks of the velocity stack better. My Jalpa has the Redline Air filters like what was on you car.

i respectfully disagree with the last picture as being the correct way to mount with the velocity stack. i used these open element air cleaners on several of my Ferraris with DCNF40's. i know these are a bit different, but if you look at the pic, you will see the air in this one area on both sides is not filtered at all. this cannot be correct, or safe for the engine.

just trying to help. i would guess it will not matter much if you are going with an airbox anyway. i do like the individual aircleaners. the sounds they allow you to hear are great. pics for reference from one of my beater 308's i took apart and overhauled.

again great thread.

It looks like your correct! I'm attaching a photo that shows why I'm confused. It shows the lower air cleaner plate mounted where the stack should be. The casting is radiused so the velocity stacks won't mount. That would allow air to be sucked over the jets and into the throat.

Hi Ross,

Mike and George would be the experts, but i would think those base plates were made in such a way that you do not need the velocity stacks.

i can drive my cars year round here in Georgia. i totally agree that in the dead heat of summer that a "airbox" would be a bit better as the carbs can breathe in air that is cooler than the hot engine bay. however, i still prefer the individual aircleaners as i can work on the motor ( change plugs, minor things) with them installed.

i would consider running the individual air cleaners until euro airboxes can be found.

glad i could help!

this is a great thread, my hats off to Mike at Evans, and to you for sharing this with us.

Many, Many thanks to Jalpa_Aus on my quest for correct Air Boxes! Mike (Jalpa_Aus) has been working with me to solve my Air Box problem. Mike has led me to Lambostuff.com in Xenia, Ohio (which is about 2 hours from me). Lambostuff is going to provide me with original Lamborghini Air Boxes. I'll have to build an air filter housing to feed the boxes but that is the easy part. Here's some of Jalpa_Aus' pictures of his Air Boxes. I'll also update the exhaust mods (Sniffer Tubes).

I contacted Evan's auto and Jeff Leblond (623-566-1628) about an engine rebuild. Jeff Leblond seems like a great guy and came highly recommended. He said increasing the intake distance greatly improves the way the car runs. He makes a replacement for the engine lid to give extra room for the carbs. He said it is a louvered hatch similar to the Urraco or Miura. He said it follows the lines of the car better than the stock cover and improves the overall look of the car. I have never seen it, but it sounded very cool and would give you the space you need.

I called Jeff Leblond (FJB Ltd) about the hatch. He hasn't actually made one yet. He is getting close to being able to offer the Top out of carbon fiber though. He's hoping to have his web sight up soon. Thanks for the info!

Here's some pics of my headers being prepped. Notice the cracks in the collector. Also the original air pump hole weld-ups protruded into the headers. I ground out the welds inside and out and had one of my guys Tig the holes shut. We checked them for leaks.

Here's my headers after Jet-Hot ceramic coated them. We built a jig to hold the Headers and a jig to control the Collectors before we welded the Sniffer Tube Bungs on and the Air Pump Holes shut. Sorry that I'm posting the info "Post" Ceramic coat. The aluminum plate on top of the jig (with the pin sticking into the Sniffer bung) was used to line up the angles on all the bungs.
