Hi all,
In readiness for the summer season, I thought I'd get a few things sorted out on the car. The first step was getting the paint work tidied up. There was the fall-out from a previous owner having a bump and dozens of stone chips, especially on the rear wheel arches. I'd spoken to the likes of ChipAways who told me that I needed a full re-spray. So I mailed a few detailers from this site, but only got the one response, from Jonny at Pure Detail. He came and saw the car and thought it was in pretty good nick, a lot better than he was expecting when I’d him about ChipAway's response. Due to the number of some of the chips he suggested a friend of his, to do a little bit of spray work, as he has a body shop in Preston and he would sort out the remainder. I took this as an opportunity to get a few other things sorted as well. Some cracks in the front spoiler, remove the crappy old car phone antenna from the rear 3/4s, a dent in under the rear valance, repair a rusting wheel arch lower, etc. Based on all this work, they quoted a very reasonable price. When I recall I was considering taking the car to Italy and getting the factory to respray it, it was an f:censored: gift. The detail became a three stage job. Initial deswirl, 2nd stage and wax, and then once the paint has hardened a full wax. Here are some pictures from the Initial Deswirl: ![]() ![]() Of course, the deswirl was done at Jon's place, and it rained on the way home. So the following week the first thing to be done was to clean the car, then I'd asked him to underseal the wheel arches as well. Here are some pictures from the 2nd Stage work. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() These are just a sample of some of the pictures, as I got a new toy, I can post more if anyone is interested. The next work is to get the brake master cylinder sorted out then a few jobs on the interior and the final detail once the paint has gone off. |

Congratulation, looks amazing, the same colour mine had.
I have in the registry:"registred J40 LPA formerly C14 CJC" is this correct? Do you know this jalpa which is for sale on the Uk site? http://www.lamborghiniclubuk.com/mai...le_jalpa5.html

Emery: One of the next jobs is to get the interior sorted out. I'll post details as I get them. The door cards and the panels with the speakers both need to be sorted out. However, the rest is in good condition so just needs to be cleaned and fed.
Raymond: You don't miss a trick do you? The full story is that I bought the plate over the winter, whilst the car was laid up. That means there was no road tax paid on tha car, which is required to change a plate in the UK. Now when getting the paint sorted out, I needed to get the car taxed, which I did, and started to sort out the plate change. However, I then found that the annual safety test had expired. ![]() Now the brake master cylinder's seal have blown. Obviously that needs to be sorted before the safety test. Which I should be picking up in a couple of days after being rebuilt. In short, all will be well by the end of April. ![]() |

ISTR the process is basically
Wash the car with a detergent that will remove all of the old wax and polish, so you're dealing with paint. Just run your finger down the car and feel all the little bumps before you start. Then you need to deswirl the car, so that as many of the swirl marks, scratches, etc are removed. The clay bar it all over so you're really dealing with just paint and it is smooth. Now run your finger down the car and try to feel any bumps. Then you're into waxing and building up the finish. Once all this has been done, you just need to go over the car with a micro-fibre cloth and some Quick Detailer. And those photos were done after the car had been driven home in the rain, and we went over her, just, with that bottle of detailer and some good cloths. To be honest there are so many possibilities, specialist knowledge required and tools, that I got a professional to do it. There are so many variations in paint, do to age, condition, etc. That I trusted a pro, but watched him and asked lots of questions. For example, when he took off a little too much paint on one wheel arch it was over to him to fix it. |
