Default How fast have you ever gone in your Jalpa

This morning at 5:30 am I did something I would not usually do. I took my Jalpa to the Bayside Bridge in Tampa and got it up to 130 mph. I ran it to 7500 RPM's on gears 1 thru 4 and started to slow down when it hit 5500 RPM's in 5th after acheiving 130 mph. The Jalpa was surprizingly very stable. My question is can the Jalpa really do a top speed of 150+mph and has anyone acheived that speed in a Jalpa.

How did you get it to 7500rpm, the rev limiter is normally at 7000, it's wise not to exceed 7000 if you don't want to have broken valves like the engine on the jalpa homepage... http://www.jalpa.ch/Enginebroken/index.html

The needle on the rpm gauge went all the way to the end of the yellow bar in every gear. Does this mean that my rev limiter is not working, also keep in mind I still have the oem Bosch ignition in as the permatune was giving me problems at 5500 rpms. I will not do this again as you have me concerned about my valves. One last note my speedometer is not accurate and is off by minus 6 mph. I know this because today I passed one of the speed meters they put on the side of the road and my speedometer was reading 50 mph, however the speed meter displayed 44 mph. Any suggestions why that is happening.

The original Bosch box has a rev limiter as well perhaps your tacho is just out of sync, but normally these tachos indicates too much at the low end and too less at high rpm.

Where did you get your info from as based on the info below taken from a Jalpa sites technical info it would seem your numbers are off, but please correct me if i'm mistaken.

1st gear ratio : 2.933:1 Max. speed : 73 Km/h (45 Mph)
2nd gear ratio : 2.105:1 Max. speed : 97 Km/h (60 Mph)
3rd gear ratio : 1.565:1 Max. speed : 138 Km/h (86 Mph)
4th gear ratio : 1.185:1 Max. speed : 172 Km/h (107 Mph)
5th gear ratio : 0.870:1 Max. speed : 234 Km/h (146 Mph)

Well in 5th gear speed per 1K RPM ranges from 20.6-20.8

So 5500 RPM is around 114 MPH
7000 RPM would be around 144 MPH

Having driven 15+ Jalpas of various vintages, I have never seen one that could pull past 7K RPM in 5th

There could be a number of factors involved:

* Speed meter, depends on which ones and how they were et up. Certain speed meters needs to be setup correctly, meaning they need to be facing the road at a particular angel, along with some other thigns I can't remember.

* Reduced tire size, this will also effect the speedometer if the diameter of the tire size is smaller than the factory size.

* Faulty speed sensors

I reached once 240kmh in 5th on the Speedo, can't remember the rpms, anyway the tacho was not accurate, at 6400rpm the ignition cut of because the engine was already running at 7000... I suppose it was slightly above 6000.
I don't think the jalpa is capable to more than the mentioned 234kmh, aerodynamics is just too bad for more.
