Default Bought a "Garage Queen" Jalpa... Maintanance Thoughts?

Jalpa Pwners,

As I mentioned in my previous post, I puchased #12045 from the Washington DC area.

The previous owner was a "little old lady type" who used his cars as "display pieces", but was afraid to drive them. At any rate, the car has had some "basic maintainance" such as complete fluid flush, new CV boots, plugs, wires, hoses, etc.

The car seems to run and drive fine. That said, I suspect there will be issues. I have seen the Jalpa web page, but was looking for thoughts on what you guys would recommend checking next...

Here are 3 off the top of my head:

1. Check the motor mounts for sure. I can almost guarantee that they are either loose, broken or have the mounting holes (at the engine) beaten into an egg shape. Raymond make a great aftermarket motor mount that is thicker and won't crack. http://www.jalpa.ch/mounts.html

2. Check the shocks for proper operation. My rear's were shot, almost completely flat. I sent them down to Ground Control in California and had them rebuilt. What a difference! Now, I just need to pull the fronts and have the same thing done with them.

3. Clean the fuse box. Seem lots of folks have problems with corrosion forming on the contacts where the fuses mount. A good scrubbing with a wire brush (after you disconnect the battery of course takes care of all sorts of electrical issues.

It is a good idea to replace all the hoses

- Cooling system
- Fuel
- Oil

If the fuel line perish they can leak onto the engine and cause a fire. I have replaced all hoses except aircond on my japla so if you need any tips let me know.

Regards

Mike

My former Jalpa caught fire because the connectors to the carbs got loose, that happened with the new owner, I made 2000Km after the carb overhoul during I never smelled fuel.
