Default Stock cats? Remove or not?

I have read a few posts about the cats on the Countach causing fires. Have many of you replaced the cats? How may have had fires? I almost bought some test pipes to replace them but I love the sound of my CT the way it is. If I can safely keep the stock setup I'd rather stick with that. Or do I have a ticking timebomb here?

As I know the cats can clog with age, you can replace them with new race catalysts with 200 cells/inch. You simply open the old cats housing and replace the core/monolyth (the cat itself) or you can buy ready packed cats and weld them into the place the old where.

200 against 400 cells monolyth

Ready to weld in cat:

The fire was caused by too much heat which made the fibreglas and carpet of the trunk burn. I installed an additional insulation above the muffler.

Here before, you can see the heat the muffler with the race cats produced:

Here the insulation:

Obisouly the great Raymond is right ,..the biggest fire hazard on any CT is the cats! get those things off the car ASAP, or have them replaced with a more moderen cat..redesign the system if at all possiable. The way the cats sit on top of each other is a terriable design flaw. I think Lambo should be held responsiable for any CT that went up in flames becuase if this careless design.

It would sound better without them anyway right?
Loose the cats and always have a fire extinguisher on board any valuable car..
especially an icon.

You'd gain some more hp without the cat, too.

Wow, this thread was brought back from the dead. I ended up buying the Larini test pipes through Chad. Haven't installed them yet. Tried doing it myself but I just can't reach in there enough. I'm going to leave it to the professionals.
