Default Headers

Chad,

Thanks for that info as I was unaware of the fire hazard/danger possibilities when using the stock smog setup... I guess I will stick with the Lunati headers (unless you think they are very inferior to others) but may consider changing the exhaust... I am not sure if only the headers were replaced without the exhaust... I will ask the dealer.

the fire problem is mainly caused by the catalysts, you should replace them with free flow metallic units.

My exhaust has 2 sport cats, gets quite hot but this is no issue: http://www.countach.ch/exhaust.html

Can I keep my headers but install the rest of the smog system so I can pass future smog tests? What parts are required to be installed along with the smog pump

Mark, it is not the headers that are the problem. The very poorly designed CAT's are the problem. You can install a very nice stainless steel system with no problems. Later, if you feel that you need to get the car to pass a smog test, you can with a bit of labor and time, reinstall all the smog stuff, then after you pass the test, remove it again.

If you need anything, or any kind of help, please write to me at my email address: JaguarXJ_S@Yahoo.com
It is easier to work there, than here.

Latest News:

Block has been rebuilt (including new Lamborghini Pistons)... Next the head is being rebuilt... My goal is to make this one of if not the nicest '86 QV's in the states (lofty and expensive goal but it is something I am working towards over time).

Question: While I am taking many pictures to well document this restore, I also have to work on the carpeting in both the passenger area and trunk... Do you think it is necessary or important to get the replacement carpet kits from the factory vs. having local interior shop redo it for me to make it look like factory (thinking about future resale value)??

Thanks in advance. (when I am ready, how to I post pictures of the rebuild?)

Raymond and Chad watching this: all should go well. Posting pics can be 'trial and error', push the buttons, and follow instructions until it works. Finally, it will. Looking forward to watching the progress.

I have found one company: italiancarparts.com that sells custom carpet sets for passenger and trunk areas although they appear somewhat expensive being that they are not from factory...

Any thoughts on best approach to dealing with carpet replacement considering future resale value?
