Question Restoring 1986 Countach 5000 QV (USA)

I have my car at the local Lamborghini Dealer Service Center and they have the engine out and will be replacing quite a few parts to bring it to new condition.

Here is my question. I heard that Bosch makes parts that are compatible with this Countach. When I mentioned this to the dealer they said that would be fine but they would need a list of comparable parts (we are going to be changing many parts like water pump, possibly fuel pump, clutch slave cylinder, and others along with misc engine parts...).

Does anyone have any recommendations on how to save some money as long as it doesn't sacrafice quality? We also will be replacing parts of the suspension.

Thanks in advance!

Boy, would I like to see that bill when they are finished.
They are playing with you. They know damn well that ALL the fuel injection parts in the car were MADE by Bosch. Lamborghini NEVER made any of those parts.
I have been dealing in Countach parts for over 25 years, give me a list of what you want.
A new water pump assy will run you over $1000.00 from Lamborghini. The kit to rebuild it will cost you around $170.00
The clutch slave around $80.00
If you would like a new stainless steel exhaust system, I sell that also.

Chad,

They said they would be happy to get the parts from my source and that they were not telling me to get the parts direct. They would also be in the same boat as to try and find the suitable parts.

I really appreciate your assistance here... Once I get the list of parts needed I will post them. I will also try and get some pictures of the engine since it is out (as they work on it) but since they are doing the work I won't be able to get down there all the time they will be somewhat limited (will do the best I can).

Thanks again,

Mark

Good to know there is quality support if I need it out there...

Have no intention of purchasing factory direct parts unless no others available but I will always check with this forum first.

Anyone have any thoughts on whether it makes sense to keep the added Lunati Headers or go back to stock smog setup... Haven't driven car since picking it up prior to going into shop for engine-out service. The dealer recommended going back to stock setup with smog pump and stock exhaust manifold to keep it smog legal. They also said that since I mostly will use it much lower speeds than top-end I wouldn't see much benefit compared to the hassles with smogging vehicle and that other than small imporvement in throttle response the additional horsepower is not much realized unless you take it closer to top-end...

What about investment/resale value? Would it be better to keep stock? I have had a Viper recently and that car I modded for track and would not use this car this way, other than few runs here and there on open highway and maybe the Silver State run once/year in Vegas.

Thanks for any input.

Mark

Latest status on engine:

Found quite a bit of carbon build up but pistons look good upon visual inspection (compression test was normal) -only top of pistons viewed...

Engine sent out to be cleaned...

Default Headers

If you deceide to change exhaust, I sell the Larini and the Quicksilver systems.
I also have a NEW factory set of Euro headers for sale.
My email is JaguarXJ_S@Yahoo.com
Contact me there and I will discuss prices with you.
As to keeping it smogged or not. The chances you will have a fire one day are greater. The smog system on the Countach, was in my opinion, very poorly done and a fire waiting to happen.
You can change the car over to a none CAT car and put all the factory smog parts in storage for the day you might need them or want to sell the car.
