Default Looking Into the Technical Issues with LM002s

Hi,

I'm currently in the process of getting a PPI done on a 1991 LM002 tomorrow. Car has 35,000kms in Maroon with Tan Interior.

I've been reading up on all the old posts, primary things that have come up:

1) Belt Tensioners
2) Tires, Tires, Tires
3) Gasoline Smell in the Cabin (seems to be normal)

Any other issues I need to hammer the PPI Mechanic with?

I'll make sure all the electrics and body shell is inspected before I plonk down the cash but I'm worried about big stuff. I'm buying the car from a major collector and the car hasn't seen much action.

Thank You.

Get all the records of repairs and maintenance records.

Also, cannot get any new Perelli tires for LM002, but there are substitute tires on the market.

How's the clutch and make sure it is not a garage queen.

Is this the LM in California?

Good luck.

Abunawaff and Taz5, I want to start by thanking both of you, your posts have been invaluable in my research and I learnt alot through them.

Abunawaff, I would think the car had the earlier Countach V12 and that the Diablo Engine came on the later cars that were for the US only..? I guess today when I take the car I'll find out the difference between the 2.

The car is on the original Scorpion Pirellis I think but yeah tires are a major issue. I've noticed that most of the owners have switched to Super Swampers but you loose that look since they're not as wide as the Scorpion Pirellis.

I've heard there are companies in the UK that recreate tires for older cars where the tires are out of production, maybe they could hook us up, don't know about the cost though.

I'll update you on how the PPI went.

Taz5, The 1st owner of the car was the Emir of Bahrain, the second owner (the one I'm talking to, is a member of the Kuwaiti Royal Family).

I love the car and everything about it but lets say for the sake of the argument that in 3 months time I need to sell it cause I own a G55 AMG right now and I don't like the LM002 anymore, do you think there is demand for the car? Do people dig it enough to buy it or I'm the only guy here who is willing to go the extra mile? Is there a global market for this car?

Would love to hear your insights.

Thank You.

I have 91 Lm and it has the diablo engine.

For resale value, it all depends on what you are paying for the LM?

How is the interior?

When you do the PPI make sure you perform a compression test.

Good luck.

In regards to the question of if there is a global market for the LM. Can I say this loud enough?

YESSSSS!!!

Do you know the name of the company in the UK that might make a special set of tires?

There is a huge global market for the LM.

I am keeping mine and it took many years to find the right LM.

Interested in the tires also.

Good luck.

Default Tires

I'm looking for that Classic Car Magazine which had an Ad in the back for a company in the UK that did Tire recreations according to customer specifications for out of production tires but in the mean this is what I've found:

http://store.coker.com/ (They recreate tires and can make any tire for customers).

http://www.aandjtireshop.com/1947730.html

http://www.customwheelsales.com/wheels.php

http://www.alpinetirecenter.com/ (Repair Old Tires)

http://customwheel.com/custom_wheels/default.php

Disclaimer: I don't know the people who own the websites above, have never used their service, am not soliciting or marketing on their behalf and the rule of caveat emptor applies, proceed at your own discretion and caution and risk.

Hope this helps.

PS: I offered the guy USD 73,000 which I felt was too much later on, kicked myself for getting too excited quickly, I talked with the head mechanic at Lambo and he told me sourcing parts is a bitch on the body and interior, he says the mechanicals they're able to handle. While I was at Lambo I saw another LM in the shop being updated and revamped, the guy is spending major bucks on it, repainting, new interior, powder coated rims and reversing camera. I think it had the earlier Countach V12s, the engine was all opened up and new gaskets were being installed, a USD 7000 job, just for that.

A friend of mine used to import them in the 80s to Cali and convert them to US specs strongly urged me to walk away, I love the LM but after what I heard and saw I decided to take his advice. I'm sad but what can I say, I have the G55 to console me, I sincerely wish Lambo comes out with an updated version of the LM which is close to the original design wise but with better everything else.

Even knowing Corky Coker personally (Coker Tire) the company will not make anything for a vehicle 1973 and newer yet. Too bad you decided against the LM. Oh well, another one for the rest of us to consider! You never answered the question. Is it the one in California?
