Thanks guys, i'm sure that is it. Sometimes you get so caught up in all of the other stuff, you don't see the answer! I might just use them until they deteriorate and then switch back to a softer compound when the time comes.
Any thoughts about the instrument lighting getting dull? Has that ever happened to anyone? My old one was much brighter even with the little knob turned down.
On a side note, I brought the car to a place in Stratford, CT called automotive restorations. They gave me a little tour of the shop (which is quite large) and I was like a kid in a candy store. They had a Muira SV that was originally white, but had been restored to a really pretty deep dark blue. They also had a Countach circa '78 or so....it was black. The coolest car there though was a Pegaso from Spain. They were restoring it and had just gotten started, but still had a long way to go. And there was a real testarossa there too....and not from the 1980s....
