Default Crappy Workmanship, but whoose?

So I needed to replace the retaining cable for the drivers side window, as the window moves too far up and stops the door closing.

I got the part, via Eurospares for about £10/$20.

Once I'd stripped down the door I found that it must of failed, previously as it has been patched a number of times before.

Here is the top where it meats the window carrier:

Can you see the extra little bracket that has been added? Here it is from the other side:

Looks like when it was patched, the cable would ride off the pulley, so someone fabircated the bracket to prevent it.

With the cost of the new part, why not just buy the new part, rather than waste time fabricating a bracket?

This is the other great example of workmanship:

Basically there is a stiff rubber tube to stop the cable getting tangled inside the door mechanism. It must of been sliced during the last repair and then nicely tie wrapped back up.
