It's nowhere safe to buy a countach since you never know what's inside the engine. Unfortunately this is a fact, the best is if you can find a car which a reliable service history done by experienced workshops.
But even this doesn't prevent that you can catch a car with a problem which simply didn't pop up yet.
After having had 2 swiss and one german LP5000S with exactly the same engine failure due casting sand I'm very biased if there was a general problem or if it hits only certain cars.
