I contacted Evan's auto and Jeff Leblond (623-566-1628) about an engine rebuild. Jeff Leblond seems like a great guy and came highly recommended. He said increasing the intake distance greatly improves the way the car runs. He makes a replacement for the engine lid to give extra room for the carbs. He said it is a louvered hatch similar to the Urraco or Miura. He said it follows the lines of the car better than the stock cover and improves the overall look of the car. I have never seen it, but it sounded very cool and would give you the space you need.
