Ferrari has a huge racing history. Very successful and dominate in every venue at some point. It is hard to talk about racing without thinking Ferrari and it's almost impossible to talk about Ferrari without thinking about racing. That is the biggest reason Ferrari is so collectable. They do have their entry level cars that are fairly inexspensive to buy (but can be costly to maintain) like the 308 and 328. These cars, like the Dino, will probably reach the "I don't believe it" prices in the future but they are not bad now.

Lamborghini has never had a real serious racing program, no racing champions or famous drivers. It's a fairly young company (1962-1963) with a history of financial troubles (although it appears stable at this time). It does, however, have the Miura which was the car that inspired the coining of "Super Car" and the Countach which gave us the first true "Super Exotic". The relatively small production volumes almost guaranteed that one would never forget the day one saw a Lamborghini for the first time (Mine was at McDonalds at the the U.S. 71 and Ohio 13 exit).

Hope this helps.
