"does anyone have an opinion on doing an early oil and filter change on a new engine"

Personally I don't believe in the 12,000km oil changes, I still stick to the 5,000km intervals. If you think about it, what is the most important part of the keeping the engine internals from lasting? OIL!

I know when you talk to the dealers, they say it doesn't need it yet, but to me it is cheap insurance. Also oil that sits in the engine does break down over time and gets subjected to moisture.

My personal opinion is to change it every 5,000km or every season, regardless of whether it is synthetic or not.

As for a brand new engine, I'd change it earlier than the 5,000km. This is when the engine is creating the most metal wear as it is breaking in. Lamborghini Vancouver also recommends the first service at 2500kms not the factory recommended 12,000kms.

Again, to me oil is cheap compared to any engine related work that it can prevent.

My 2 cents.
