Just did Italia Fest at Moroso Speedway !
I finally got to race my Gallardo! I enjoyed smoking a Ferrari F355 ( he spun out trying to follow my line through a wicked chicane). Two long straights, one with max speeds up to 140 for me, followed by maximum braking for a huge sweeping turn you could not enter at much over 40 or 50mph( hard to say, since you have zero time to watch the speedometer during the end of braking and entering of the turn..this goes on to a whole series of severe turns, before the back stretch, afterwhich the chicane occurs. Actually there are two of them, but the first is the hard one.
The Gallardo is an amazing track machine. I burned through three full tanks of gas, in a days racing, and the car is in perfect shape....except for the tires ..
As to tires, I had to replace the tires just before the race, and could not get Pirelli's anywhere in the time available, and allowed the scumbag at a local tire and wheel store to sell me the Toyo that fits the Gallardo...these are the crappiest tires imaginable--do not ever buy these!!! I am ordering Pirelli tires now. I guess it is just as well I ate up the Toyos, rather than a brand new set of Pirelli tires.
In the turns, I was able to run the Gallardo right at the extreme limit of adhesion, essentially crabbing it slightly in the last half of the turns--it is amazinly controllable, easy to run right on the edge of letting go--the maximum speed of the line you are on in the turn.
