Don't worry about thinking you could have those other cars instead of the Gallardo...no one notices those other cars, but EVERYONE loves the G. The feeling you get from knowing it's yours is emotionally worth 20 of those everyday cars, and that you can't put a price on. Do whatever it takes to get one - buy one with a few miles like I did.
I say, drive it to the dealer unless mechanically you can't. My usual sport-drive route in my Gallardo is 1.5 hours of travel in each direction, so a 3 hour loop (much of that driving the car pretty hard). I do this every 3-4 days as I work for myself and can go during the week, when no one is on the road. So don't let a 3-hour drive deter you.
Unless you're leaving it overnight or longer, then it's probably easier to ship.
