These are important parts that you left out? Please try and be totally honest from the beginning. Honestly, I would not even respond back to your email if it was sent to me. You are saying that only you would work on the car. He offered you his lift and tools to check it out yourself and offered to have someone else drive you around. He never said that you had to buy it without looking at it or driving in it. So in the future please try to include all information.
