AMSTERDAM—Lamborghini has yet to make a final decision on an SUV model or a 2+2 grand tourer, CEO Stephan Winkelmann said in an interview with Auto Telegraaf.
The Dutch auto-enthusiast magazine said Winkelmann did confirm plans for a rear-wheel-drive version of the Lamborghini Gallardo that would be lighter and less expensive than the all-wheel-drive model.
Winkelmann also addressed concerns about cannibalization between the Audi and Lamborghini brands, especially in the light of Audi's announcement about its R8 supercar. He said Lamborghini will remain the top marque in the Volkswagen group.
What this means to you: Winkelmann's remarks seem to confirm speculation that the Audi R8 may be priced lower than most supercars, so that it won't step on the toes of sister-brand Lamborghini.
