Thumbs up Lamborghini Gets their 1st Points

Despite making just its fourth FIA GT appearance of the season, the Reiter Engineering Lamborghini Murcielago R-GT secured its first points finish after Peter Kox and Norman Simon picked up an eighth place finish at Oschersleben.

On the tight and twisty track, the Michelin runners struggled to match the Pirelli-shod cars which claimed the first six places, and that, coupled with a spin on lap two for Simon and a puncture later in the race, effectively put the Lamborghini out of contention for a higher placed finish.

Despite the problems, Kox attacked hard in the last quarter of the race taking back one of the two laps lost earlier due to a puncture, and the Lamborghini was one of the fastest cars on the track during that time. In the last ten laps of the race he caught and passed two Maseratis and two Ferraris.

"It was a shame about the start because not only did that ruin the tyres, but it dropped us right back," the Dutchman said. "I think I had two good stints though and I'm happy to finish and score a point. It's hard work doing a double stint at this track because there is no chance to rest at any point, it's very physically demanding the whole time."

Team principal Hans Reiter was pleased with the result, admitting a top eight finish was more than he could have hoped for.

"I'm happy with our performance towards the end of the race, when we were one of the fastest cars on the track, and it's impressive that Peter set his fastest lap of the race on lap 104 on tyres which were well into the second part of a double stint," he said. "I think to finish eighth, with the little dramas we had, is more than I could have expected."
